Hello! My name is Nia Dougherty and I am the face behind foodbynia.
I started my food account back in December of 2014 when I was only 13 years old. Growing up, I continuously shadowed my mother in the kitchen admiring her swift movements and culinary creativity. I was always infatuated by her, what seemed to be, effortless and flawless executions of meals every day. Rather than being the designated potato peeler and green bean tail-picker for our traditional Sunday Roasts, as I got older I began to provide my own technique and flavor in the kitchen. We began collaborating on dinners during the week and planned out fun baking ideas for the weekends. foodbynia became the platform for me to express and share the foods that I had made. However, I never would have imagined it to become what it is now.
foodbynia took a major turn after I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in May of 2019. My diet before my diagnosis consisted of a lot of gluten. More specifically, a ton of bacon, egg, and cheeses on toasted sesame bagels from the local deli. While my diagnosis resulted in an extensive adjusting period, I can’t imagine my life without it. I began to use foodbynia as a way to communicate with fellow Celiacs and other members of the gluten free community around the world in order to find comfort, support, and recipes! The gluten free community has changed my life forever- everyone is so kind and supportive and I am happy to say that I’ve met some great friends and connections through it.
Thank you for taking the time to look through my website and I hope you like what you see!
